A day in the life of an abstract artist:
As I drive in to work daily, I have been noticing this one particular tree. It is rather large and very beautiful but it is unique because half of it is white and half is black. It caught my eye because of that fact. The first time I saw this tree, I thought I must paint that! Then I see it on my way home except this time the sun is setting and the sky looked as if someone threw a bucket of orange and red paint at this white and black tree. I thought oh my, I must paint that tree now! I have been driving past this tree for several months now saying that to myself every day. Every time I see something different in that tree. I know that I will get inspired and that tree will become part of a painting. I am typically an abstract artist so I usually set out to capture a feeling or make a statement or something like that. I donít usually paint trees, or people or animals. I paint feelings, thoughts and events that move me, but that tree is stuck in my mind haunting me, paint me, paint me. I guess I need to paint it.
I have watched it go through the seasons of spring, summer and fall and now winter and still have not painted that tree. I guess before I lose the inspiration I will put paint to my brush and paint a tree. I canít promise it will look like that tree; it will look like the feeling of that tree. I have connected to that tree and feel as though I am on a first name basis with that tree. I will paint that tree because I have come to realize it represents the environment and our planet and it has something to say. It is special and deserves to have its portrait painted. So you see that tree does have an emotion, and a statement to make and I now understand why it has stood out to me all of this time calling me to paint it. This is my process, I spend a lot of time contemplating the subject, feeling or statement I am making and then I go after it with passion. So, the next time you happen to stop in to Lemon Street Gallery, ask if I ever got around to painting the story of the tree and maybe you will happen upon that trees painting and perhaps it will call out to you!

The title universe, the concept a perception of something that is all things in the universe. The earth, wind, water, fire, this painting is my expression of all things that make up the universe. This is my perception, the inspiration? What inspires an artist? It can be a moment in time, an emotion, a event or something as simple as a visual reference. This painting started several years ago when I studied in Virgina with a Native American Indian woman who taught me many things about life, spirit and the universe. She showed me how to tune into my inner artist and express that in many ways. This painting is dedicated to her, my friend, she spent 5 years teaching me many things. She was mysterious, powerful and amazing and I learned so much from her with that said, she was the inspiration of this 6 ft x 4 ft oil painting called Universe. I just thought I would share a little inside look into the mind and soul of an artist! More to come as life reveals.....

Delete Post Edit Blog Posts Hi everyone,
This journey has been a world wind of activity. I was running late when I arrived so I had to check into the hotel run up to my room do a quick change and go down to the banquet room! I came down to the lobby and was lead to the dinner by some of the most amazing large beautifully done paintings. I knew right then I was in the right place. I was greeted by the charming Jojo Merango (the founder of the WAF). I introduced myself and he invited me to join him at his table. He introduced me to Krizsan Zoltan an artist from Hungry, and Dodrit from Africa. His agent was there I only know her as Angela she is from New York. There was also a writer from InMotion filmz who was hired to video this event Dino Wells. He will be posting it on the World Art foundation website. www.worldartfoundation.org. Jojo was a charming host introducing us and started interesting conversation. He had many duties that evening and left the table many times. I learned that Zoltan was a young and talented artist, very outgoing. He made me really appreciate the fact that I am American and I have freedom to paint and show my work as I please. Zoltan explained where he is from that if you are an artist in his country, the art is controlled by the Gov't. There are organizations that take the money for images and the artists have little recourse. He actually brought over 30 Plus paintings to share with us and let me tell you that he is a gifted and talented artist. He won a Master award. He struggled hard to get here. I just met this young man and I was so proud of him. He told us of how many people helped him to get the art here. It had to go through customs, and just the shipping was a trial for him. The term starving artist has a new meaning for me, let me tell you this man helped me to understand what that really means! Jojo hosted the awards ceremony and the artists who recieved 1st, 2nd and 3rd place in the masters category were all very deserving of their awards both artists at my table received them. I was fortunate to recieve an award in the Master category (Honrable mention). I am thrilled that the peole who were on the commitee thought my work was worth mentioning. When I look at the work of these people I feel as though I was so fortunate to be in this group. There were other awards given out for Emerging artits two of my new friends Ken Boe and Bob (sorry I couldn't find his last name will post it on another blog promise he had lots to say about my work! ) I met Michael Cheval and Octavian Florescu as well. These two artists are Master Elite artists and very talented. I almost felt like I should take my puppy butt and get back on the porch! When you are engaing in the global art world it is so different than in my little world. These artists are so smart, charming, and talented. I can not begin to explain how great their work is up close and personal. It is like stepping back into time and I am meeting the great masters. I know that sounds really corney but so, so true. I know, Kim Rahal humbled oh yes, my friends absolutely humbled. I have so much to learn from these people. I can't wait to share what came next......
